FCSO to Host Active Shooter Workshop

Florence County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Florence County will host an active shooter awareness training workshop on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the South Eastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT) Conference Center on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College located at 1951 Pisgah Road, Florence, SC from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The focus of this seminar is the role and integration of fire and emergency medical services (EMS) with law enforcement in an active shooter situation.

The instructor for this training is Steven C. Hamilton from Columbia, SC, a veteran fire fighter and emergency medical technician. Steve brings more than 18 years of fire service experience to the table, as well as 16 years as an EMT. He has also published articles in Fire Engineering magazine on the topic of active shooter.

“We train for active shooter situations because the training will make all the difference in the outcome,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated. “We invite all of the public safety responders to this training so that we can act as one unit should the need arise.”
