FCSO ASKS SLED TO INVESTIGATE OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
At approximately 01:23 hours this morning, a Florence County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Lucas Street. The subject vehicle refused to stop for the blue light and led the deputy on a pursuit onto Clement Street through Ingram Street, and ultimately ran into a residence at 705 North Dunbar Street. When the deputy got out of his vehicle, the operator of the suspect vehicle attempted to run the deputy over. The deputy discharged his duty weapon multiple times in self-defense.
The subject vehicle was occupied by three suspects, two of whom were transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. The third suspect was arrested at the scene on drug charges and is in custody at the Florence County Detention Center. One of the suspects transported from the scene for medical treatment was discharged from the hospital this morning and has been taken into custody on drug charges as well. The other subject remains in the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. Additional charges against one or more of the suspects are possible.
FCSO has requested that the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigate the incident. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision of the subject vehicle and the residence. As is customary in these incidents, the deputy has been placed on administrative leave with pay until further notice.
