FCSO Investigators Allege Unlawful Neglect of a Child
SUBJECT:Ashley Nicole Matthews, age 23, of 1312 South Mayfair Terrace, Florence, SC 29505 was arrested on June 5, 2014 by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Unlawful Neglect of a Child (S.C. NARRATIVE: Ashley Nicole Matthews, age 23, of 1312 South Mayfair Terrance, Florence, SC was arrested today by Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Unlawful Neglect of a Child. According to Investigators, on or about March 1, 2014 FCSO Deputies and Florence County EMS were called to the residence on South Mayfield Terrace as the suspect’s then 14 month old child was not breathing. Deputies and EMS personnel immediately began to perform CPR on the child and continued enroute to an area hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, the child was place on a ventilator. Following extensive medical treatment, the child recovered and was released from the hospital.
Investigators allege that the child ingested an unknown amount of Methadone from an open container left by the subject with reach of the toddler. Following release from the hospital, DSS placed custody of the child with a family member.
Under South Carolina law, Unlawful Neglect of a Child is a felony punishable by a fine in the discretion of the court or up to 10 years in prison, or both.
