NARRATIVE: Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office arrested two in connection with injuries to an infant. According to Investigators, Bryan Austin Seidle and Rebekah Brianna Thomas were arrested today and charged with Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child. Investigators allege that on or about May 1, 2014, the six week old infant of the suspects was brought to an area hospital emergency department with seizures. After medical testing, Investigators state that the infant was found to have suffered non-accidental subarachnoid hemorrhages to the brain consistent with trauma. Following admission to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, the infant’s medical condition initially deteriorated requiring that the child be placed on a ventilator. Ultimately however, the infant’s condition improved over time and has since been released from the hospital.
Under South Carolina law, Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child is a punishable by a fine in the discretion of the court or imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both.
Seidle and Thomas will appear before a Florence County Magistrate later today for consideration of bond.
