FCSO TO HOST EXPLOSIVE TRAINING FOR FIRST RESPONDERS

Florence County Sheriff’s Office will host Improvised/Homemade Explosives Training for First Responders at the Florence County Law Enforcement Center in Effingham, SC on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. This training will be conducted along with Bomb Technicians and Explosive Specialists from, FCSO, SLED, ATF, FBI and Florence County Emergency Management Division.

During the afternoon, it is likely that the public will hear a series of large scale explosions, some of which may be very loud. All detonations will be conducted at the FCSO Lesane Training Center on Pound Road, Effingham, SC under highly controlled conditions.

“Our agency and others frequently receive reports of bomb threats, suspicious packages and encounter meth labs, all of which have the potential for serious injury to the public,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated. “We are pleased to host this training for other first responders in our area so that we can all better address these threats.”

(Note to Media: If you would like to be present during a portion of the detonation phase of the training, please contact the undersigned by October 22, 2014 for more details. Due to the subject matter of the training and the confidential nature of the instructors, some restrictions on reporting may be required. Neither the training nor the detonation are open to the public.)
